Offbeat film actor Irrfan Khan who was last seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ has apparently dropped his surname ‘Khan’ from his name. Irrfan has taken such action to avoid revealing his Muslim identity. The 59-year-old actor does not want his audiences to recognize him through his religion. The ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ actor has even declined several film projects including Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan, Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children and Mira Nair's The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
Irrfan turned down these roles as he just did not want filmmakers to cast him for a role of Muslim citizen. Meanwhile, Irrfan has successfully bagged huge accolades from noted filmmakers Shekar Kapur, Anurag Kashyap and actor Amitabh Bachchan for his portrayal of athlete turned dacoit Paan Singh in his last ‘Paan Singh Tomar’.
