The 59th National Awards have been announced and Bollywood’s highly appreciated films have also managed to bag quite a few awards in coveted categories. Filmmaker Onir’s ‘I Am’ bagged the ‘Best Hindi Film’ award. And this has left the director stunned and overwhelmed. “I am numb right now, this is so unexpected! It gives me so much strength to continue with such work. This award comes at a time when I was disheartened that ‘I Am’ didn't get due recognition. And now it has been noticed by the most prestigious award of our country” said Onir. Salman Khan’s maiden production ‘Chillar Party’ too scored high as it won ‘Best Children Film’ award. Vikas Behl and Manish Tiwari won the original screenplay award for the same while the 10 kid stars from the film shared the ‘Best Child Artist’ award with Partho Gupte from ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’. Bosco-Caeser won the best choreography award for the song ‘Senorita’ from the film ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’.
But the biggest winner emerged in the name of Milan Luthria’s directorial film ‘The Dirty Picture’ as protagonist Vidya Balan won the ‘Best Actress’ award for her performance in the film. The film also shared Best Costume and Make-Up award with Marathi film ‘Balgandharva’. Marathi film ‘Deool’ and ‘Byari’ shared the best feature film award. Marathi star Girish Kulkarni who played the lead in ‘Deool’ won the best actor.
