The state is facing a massive power shortage due to the Telangana issue. Singareni Coal Mines have gone completely silent as the employees participated in the ‘Sakala Janula Samme’. Lack of coal has halted power generation in Ramagundam power plant.
10 thermal power stations in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka are dependent on Singareni for their coal and now all of them are in a precarious situation.
The Singareni Colliery is losing about Rs 25 crore per day as production of coal in the mines spread over four districts in Telangana has come to a halt. More than 75 per cent of the four lakh employees have boycotted work.
Power cuts have already begun in rural areas and are expected to be implemented in cities also if the situation does not improve soon
